In Switzerland, family carers can work with RealCare on an hourly basis for the basic care of their relatives (Art. 7 Abs. 2 lit. c KLV). The basic care services provided are billed directly via RealCare with the insurance of the family member being cared for.
Family carers include all people who regularly care for people close to them, regardless of where they live. This includes parents, children, spouses, life partners and other close family members.
Financial compensation is offered for basic care. This includes, among other things, assistance with getting up and going to bed, help with dressing, assistance with personal care as well as with putting on compression stockings and with eating and drinking.
Other care activities such as medical care, accompaniment, transportation or surveillance, as well as domestic help, are not included in the benefits covered by health insurance.
It is not possible to bill for basic care services as an individual. The prerequisite for this is an hourly employment contract with recognized specialized organizations such as REALCARE.
Family members who provide care receive compensation of CHF 37 per hour from REALCARE for basic care, including social security contributions and extras for holidays. From an income of CHF 22,050, enrollment in the pension fund (2nd pillar) is carried out, to cover any pension gaps.
Family carers receive regular support from a qualified nurse, who acts as a personal contact, offering practical and helpful advice. REALCARE also contributes financially to the training and continuing education of family carers, depending on their care needs.
